If you don’t get the blog posts by email, here’s last week’s post, where I tell you how my writing’s been going this year and about what my plans are for the next few months:
Before I dig in, just a quick update on posts/newsletters: over the summer, I’m aiming to send blog posts and newsletters on alternate Mondays. So one week you’ll get a blog post, the next week you’ll get a newsletter.
The newsletters are for things that are (a) too short for the blog (b) too ephemeral for the blog or (c) both!
In today’s newsletter, I wanted to share a bit about my fiction writing.
I’ll give you the quick summary first, in case you’re in a hurry:
- There’s now a paperback version of Dominion (the third book in my Lycopolis trilogy). You can get that here: Dominion paperback.
- Not So Imaginary, my stand-alone novella, has a new cover. You can take a look at it (and buy the ebook, if you want) here: Not So Imaginary.
- All three Lycopolis novels are going up from $2.99 to $3.99 (ebooks).
- Not So Imaginary is going up from $0.99 to $1.99.
And if you want to know a bit more, here are all the details.

What's Happening With My Fiction Marketing
I don’t talk much about my fiction on the Aliventures blog and newsletter.
Mostly, that’s because Aliventures is about helping and encouraging you with your writing, not going on at length about mine … but it’s also because I’ve really struggled to find time to write much fiction during the past few years.
And without much time to write new fiction, I’ve barely even attempted to market my existing novels.
So if you’re in the same position – life is busy and your fiction keeps falling by the wayside – then please take heart that you’re not alone.
One lesson I’ve learnt (slowly!) over the years is that I really need to focus on getting one project going well at a time. Trying to build up my freelancing and write weekly blog posts and draft a novel and finish short stories and market novels just isn’t going to work.
So since the start of May, I’ve been very focused on building my freelance income – and I’m delighted to have been successful in meeting my goals for that.
With my freelancing going smoothly, I’ve got a little bit of time and energy for my fiction. I’ve been working on a first draft of something new, and I’ve taken a couple of (small) steps towards marketing my existing novels and novella:
Firstly, Dominion, the third novel in my Lycopolis trilogy, finally has a paperback version as well as the ebook version. (The previous two novels, Lycopolis and Oblivion have been out in paperback for quite some time.)
Secondly, Not So Imaginary, my stand-alone novella, has a shiny new cover. The original cover wasn’t quite conveying the vision I had for the book, and this one feels like a much better fit.
Here's how it looks:

What Are These Books, Anyway?
All my current book-length fiction is contemporary fantasy.
That means my novels are set in the real world, but with fantasy elements (mostly, evil demons).
So far, they’ve appealed to a pretty broad range of readers, but if you only like fiction set firmly in the real world or you like books that are set in highly detailed fantasy worlds, then these may not be the books for you.
Not sure? You can check out the blurbs and get a free sample on Kindle, or just flick through the “Look Inside” view on Amazon.
And I’d recommend checking them out as soon as you can, because…
All My Books Are Going Up in Price
I first published Lycopolis, my debut novel, in 2011. Back then, I priced it at $2.99.
A little over a decade on, ebook prices have increased ... along with everything else.
So, I’m going to be raising the price of Lycopolis, Oblivion, and Dominion from $2.99 to $3.99 each.
Not So Imaginary is going from $0.99 to $1.99, as it’s shorter.
All four are available in Kindle Unlimited, so if you’ve got a Kindle Unlimited subscription, you can get them completely for free.
I’m keeping them at the old price until the end of Friday 29th July – so if you’ve been meaning to buy any/all of them, now’s a great time! Check them out here:

Happy reading,
