A few years ago, when I ran the Writers' Huddle community/teaching site, we had occasional writing challenges.
I've also done these as On Track challenges for the Aliventures audience in general.
Good news: I'm bringing the writing challenges back!
I wanted to make these challenges as easy to engage with as possible (many thanks to those who gave their thoughts in the Aliventures survey, which has helped shape my plans).
Here's how the challenges will work:
- We'll have four challenges per year (generally spaced between spring, summer, autumn, and winter).
- Each writing challenge will last four weeks, with a pre-challenge week for signing up, goal setting, and getting to know one another.
- You can set yourself any goal you like: it doesn't have to just be about producing new words (e.g. you
might prefer to edit or outline).
- You're encouraged to join the challenge's pop-up Facebook group and check in weekly: optionally, I'll tag you for check-ins to help remind you.
- You can also check in by email if you don't want to use Facebook: I'll send out an email on Sunday evenings to email-only members.
- You can
post in the Facebook group at any time to ask questions or get encouragement/support ... someone else might have the perfect suggestion or the kind words you need to hear to keep you going.
- The challenge only costs $10 for all 4 weeks and there are a few free places available too (e.g. if you're a student, unemployed, or a carer).
- I'll publish a short (2-3
minutes) video each Monday of the challenge to offer tips and encouragement: you'll be able to view this in the Facebook group or on a password-protected page if you're taking part by email
The Spring Writing Challenge will open for registration on Monday 17th April and the
challenge itself will run from Monday 24th April to Sunday 21st May.
I wanted to give you to give you plenty of advance warning in case you want to (a) pop the $10 aside for it in advance or (b) think through what project you'd like to work on.
I'll be sending out full details on Monday 17th April so you can find out more and, hopefully, join us.
I'm so excited for the Spring Challenge: I can't wait to hear
about what you'll be working on ... and I need to think about which of my projects I'll be tackling, too!
Happy writing, and happy Easter,
Ali x
