We celebrate all kinds of events and achievements in life. Some of those celebrations are huge ones (like weddings or milestone birthdays), others might be a simple drink at the pub with friends.
When's the last time you
celebrated your writing?
Maybe you've had a specific writing success that felt "worth" celebrating ... like a competition shotlisting or even a win. But even then, you might not have done all that much beyond feeling pleased about it. Hopefully you at least spent any winnings on some kind of treat.
You don't have to wait to win something, or get published, to celebrate though. You can celebrate all the writing milestones you pass on the way ... or even simply celebrate yourself for sticking with writing.
Celebrating doesn't necessarily mean cracking open the champagne (though absolutely treat yourself to a special food or drink if you like!)
One really simple way to celebrate is to share something positive with friends (particularly with other writers).
In Writers' Cafe recently, one member shared a lovely piece of feedback she'd had from one of her blog readers ... what a great
way to celebrate that positive response to her writing.
If you're not yet feeling confident about sharing your writing achievements with others, another way to celebrate is to write down your successes.
I use a paper planner to organise my life, and that has space for a "Daily Win" each day ... a great way to have a little moment of
writing celebration and acknowledgement.
A couple of other ways you might like to celebrate your writing are to:
- Set aside some (extra) time and space to write. Maybe you'd like to go to a cafe for an afternoon, or even book an overnight writing retreat.
- Buy something that suports your identity as a writer. New notebooks are
always lovely, of course ... but you might also want decor for your writing area, a candle to light when you're writing, your favourite tea bags, or anything else that makes your writing time feel extra special.
What could you celebrate about your writing this week? Maybe you started something new, or even finished a piece. Perhaps you published a post on your blog, or plucked up the courage to share a chapter with a
friend. Or you might have stuck with your writing plans, even when life got busy.
Whatever you're working on, it's worth celebrating!
If you've got a couple of minutes, please do fill in the Aliventures survey.
The annual survey is your opportunity to tell me a bit about what you're writing, what's going well, what you're struggling with, and what blog posts & resources you'd like me to create over the upcoming months.
Happy writing,
Ali
