Want to set a specific writing target over the next month or two?
Here are some great, meaningful milestones that you might already be close to.
(If you've already achieved all three, check out these nine writing milestones to celebrate for more!)
#1: See Something (Short) Through to Completion
Confession time: for my first few years as a writer, I was great at starting things. I wasn't so good at finishing them!
If you generally abandon pieces rather than completing them, make
the next few weeks your chance to change that. Pick something short to work on (like a short story) and see it through from first draft to polished piece.
#2: Find Your First Reader
Maybe no-one's ever read your writing before. Or perhaps you've only showed it to a
family member.
Could you share your writing with one person in the next few weeks? This could be just for encouragement or for helpful feedback. In Writers' Cafe, we do that
in our Feedback space ... you're very welcome to join us.
#3: Get a Piece Published Online for the First Time
Whether you start your own blog, submit a piece to an online magazine, write on a site like Medium, or publish a poem on Facebook, it all
counts!
Within the next month, you could write and publish a piece online, even if you've never had anything published before.
These milestones are based on my blog post Nine Writing Milestones to Celebrate (and Goals to Aim For).
